If you’re planning any type of construction, it is a good idea to check with the County Zoning Office.  External additions or alterations to a structure, such as building new, adding on, building or replacing a shed or garage, installing a fence, deck, or patio, will usually require a Winnebago County zoning permit.

Interior remodeling, replacement of windows, doors, siding, and roofing do not require a zoning permit.

Building permits from the Town of Neenah are generally required for items that require a zoning permit.

Installing a fence - You need a zoning permit from Winnebago County Zoning; you do not need a building permit from the Town of Neenah for a fence installation.

If your property is in shoreland areas, zoning permits may also be required for fill, for patios (concrete, brick, or paver blocks) or sidewalks/driveways within 75 ft. of the Ordinary High Water Mark.
